THE KETCHUP-BOAT – Stranded Cargo – A Restitution Reconsidered
In collaboration with sculptor Hannes Brunner and students from the teaching initiative “Art as a Means of Historical Inquiry”
Project Teaser:
A fishing boat lies on a meadow by the sea. On board: hundreds of expired ketchup bottles, remnants of European overproduction – exported, forgotten, and abandoned. The boat is located on the Majuro Atoll, Marshall Islands, a former German colony from which countless cultural artifacts were removed over a century ago, which are now disappearing into European collections. We take the initiative an exhibit:
The Ketchup Boat from the Marshall Islands – A Restitution Reconsidered.
